What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization, or more commonly known as SEO, is an acronym we are sure to come across when talking about websites and web applications. But what does it actually represent, and why is it so necessary? We answer those questions in the following text.

The main purpose of Search Engine Optimization is to increase website’s visibility in the organic (non-paid) traffic. Numerous factors can affect your search engine visibility and rankings (there are approximately 200 of them). The most important factors include the speed and quality of the website itself, keywords used – their density and relevance, internal and external links etc. Addressing these factors is vital if you wish to upscale your search engine rankings. By using relevant keywords at just the right density, the search engine can find and understand your website, and consequently, present it to your target audience.

However, as SEO is not exact science, even if you were to fulfil all the technical requirements, there is no guarantee that your site will reach the number one place. Other factors that can contribute are in fact the creativity of the content, and demand for such content.

Even though social media can be useful in acquiring new clients, the majority of traffic still comes through search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. That is why SEO is of key importance.
